The Belted Galloways National show was held at the Royal Norfolk Show in Norwich. It was a scorcher with the weather. Judge for the day was Ian Marshall from the Larghill Herd, and he had travelled the long journey from Dumfries and Galloway to officiate.
The first class of the day was for heifers born on or after 1st January 2025 and standing at the top of this class was Blackthorn Candy, a Shelsleys Eros daughter out of a homebred cow Blackthorn Violet, bred and exhibited by Ben and Becky Burgess Smith. Taking second spot was Monochrome Miley from Jonathan and Vicky Clowes, in third place was Twomills Frances Dunlop from Jeremy Perkins.
The next class of heifers only had one entry and taking the red ticket was Bigginvale Whist a Bigginvale Hagrid daughter for the Adams family
The senior heifer class was strong with good quality. At the top of this class was the smart heifer Blackthorn Bonnie from Ben and Becky Burgess Smith, she is sired by Shelsleys Eros. Taking second was Monochrome Layla from Jonathan and Vicky Clowes who also took the third sport with Monochrome Lizzie.
In the Cow class the winner was the Dun cow Brightenflatt Key Largo from Sharon Morter, sired by Mochrum Apollo 2 and out of Brightenflatt Red Hollister. Taking the blue rosette for second was The Park Farm Perdi from Amy George. Third place was Millbrook Daphne from Borleys Belties.
The calf class was won by East Coast Bonnie from Sharon Morter who was sired by Holkham Ivan.
The Junior bull class was won by Ben and Becky Burgess Smith with Blackthorn Colonel who is sired by Shelsleys Eros and out of the homebred cow Blackthorn Vixen. Second prize went to Shelsleys Ted from David and Deborah Powell and taking third place in this strong class of bulls was Tottingworth Viking from Jason and Sarah Wareham.
The Senior Bull class was next, and this was won by Jonathan Clowes with Monochrome Lightning, a Fernyford Oscar son out of Bigginvale Joy. Second place was Bigginvale Gryffindor from Messrs Adams and in third was Auchengassel Tradesman from Jason and Sarah Wareham.
Onto the Championships next and in the Males Ian found his Champion in Monochrome Lightning from Jonathan and Vicky Clowes. Taking Reserve was Blackthorn Colonel from Ben and Becky Burgess Smith.
The Female Champion was Blackthorn Bonnie with Monochrome Layla taking the reserve. The Junior champions were both from Ben and Becky Burgess Smith with Blackthorn Candy taking Junior Champion and Blackthorn Colonel taking Reserve.
