FARM VISIT 27th August 2023

A tremendous open day was held at Hillhouse Farm on Sunday . Beltie Breeders, enthusiasts and friends were welcomed warmly. Around 70 folk were taken on a farm walk and introduced to the Beltie herd , Herdwick flock and pigs . We heard Tammy and Colin’s story of being new entrants to farming now breeding Belties and producing delicious meat to sell successfully at their farm shop .
Tremendous hospitality, We were so well fed with their own delicious produce: Beltie stew and Beltie curry .
As well as the herd walk we had a variety of informative talks including John Corrie talking knowledgeably on the history of the breed .
Molly and Daisy Keiley gave us an interesting insight into youngsters view of training and showing their cattle. Alasdair Marshall another knowledgable youngster talked about blood lines and choosing bulls at a sale.
Kyla Graham clearly explained the basics of stock judging and everyone had a go judging a pen of heifers.
Zan Kirk organised an old agricultural tool quiz. All in all a tremendous informative fun day.
